Selling The Fight: British Boxing Posters Book (Hardback)

Selling The Fight: British Boxing Posters Book (Hardback)

The story of British boxing, told through the posters that sold the fights.

Selling The Fight – The Art of British Boxing Posters is a 300-page A4 gloss hardback collecting more than 100 original fight posters and flyers from the 1970s, 80s and 90s, alongside 50+ photographs. Compiled by Mitch Gray and Charlie Palmer, it's believed to be the first book of its kind.

Before social media and online advertising, a fight was sold with a poster: pinned up in gyms, pasted in shop windows and handed out as flyers. From packed town halls to world title nights, this book brings those designs together in one collection.

Inside the book

  • 100+ original posters and flyers, from local hall shows to world title fights
  • Three decades of British boxing: the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s
  • Posters for fights involving Henry Cooper, Marvin Hagler, Barry McGuigan, Frank Bruno, Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn, Lennox Lewis, Naseem Hamed, Joe Calzaghe and Ricky Hatton
  • 50+ photographs
  • A4 hardback with a gloss cover

A great gift for any British boxing fan

What a book : )
I have the good fortune of a boxing fanatic best mate who during the 80s, 90s and 00s kept arranging for us to go to boxing matches, several of the fights detailed in here... This book has me reliving not just the fights but the whole lead up to and post fight debates.
Enjoyed searching through for those fights as well as going decade by decade ... Remembering names I shouldn't have forgot and names somehow I didn't know...
Stats_commentary_posters and photos, great for 5 mins having a coffee or losing an hour ...

A brilliant look back at British boxing through the years. Packed with iconic fight posters from the 1970s onwards, making it both incredibly nostalgic and genuinely informative. It’s fascinating seeing how the sport, its biggest names and the way fights were promoted have evolved over the decades. A great book for any British boxing fan and one I really enjoyed looking through.
