Tim Witherspoon v Frank Bruno (1986) – Original Fight Poster
On 19 July 1986, WBA heavyweight champion Tim Witherspoon defended his title against Frank Bruno in front of around 40,000 fans at Wembley Stadium, in an open-air show. Bruno had earned the shot by knocking out former champion Gerrie Coetzee in under two minutes that March. He boxed well in the early rounds, but Witherspoon turned the fight around and stopped him three seconds before the end of the eleventh. The American champion kept his title in a stadium packed with Bruno's supporters.
